The utilities

Two tools so far. More on the bench.

Expiry Watch

Know before a certificate or domain lapses.

Check any site in seconds: expiry, issuer, chain and hostname, plus when the domain itself renews. Watch up to 3 domains for free and get an email 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 day before either one runs out.

Chart Link

Charts that work where JavaScript doesn’t.

Paste a spreadsheet, get a crisp chart image for email, Slack, slides and pull requests. Your data stays in your browser.

What chore should we take off your plate next? The next utility comes from someone’s annoying Tuesday. Tell us yours.

Why now

Certificate lifetimes are shrinking fast.

In April 2025 the CA/Browser Forum voted to cut the longest a public TLS certificate may last, step by step, from 398 days to 47. Shorter certificates are safer, but every renewal is another chance for one to slip.

  1. Until 15 Mar 2026 398 days
  2. Since 15 Mar 2026 now 200 days
  3. From 15 Mar 2027 100 days
  4. From 15 Mar 2029 47 days

At least 8 renewals a year at 47 days

Free monitoring

Three steps, then peace and quiet.

Watch up to 3 domains for free. We check them every day and email you only when a date gets close or something breaks.

  1. 1Add a domain

Enter the domain and your email, then confirm from your inbox. No account, no password.

  2. 2We check it daily

The certificate, its chain and hostname, and the domain’s registration date. A failed check is never mistaken for an expiry; we tell you if your site stays unreachable for 3 days.

  3. 3Hear from us when it matters

An email 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 day before a certificate or domain expires. One click unsubscribes.

How we work

Small promises, kept.

  • Free means free

Checks, the chart builder and monitoring for 3 domains cost nothing. No card, no trial clock.

  • Honest results

If a check fails, we say it failed. We never guess a date or call a broken check fine.

  • Your data stays yours

Chart Link draws in your browser, so pasted data never leaves it. Analytics are cookieless.

  • Only the email you asked for

Confirmed sign-ups only, alerts about your own domains, and one-click unsubscribe in every message.

What does it cost?

Nothing for everything on the site today: certificate and domain checks, monitoring for up to 3 domains, and the chart builder.

Paid plans for longer watch lists and hosted chart links are in early access. Joining the list is free and commits you to nothing.

What does Expiry Watch check?

A site’s TLS certificate: when it expires, who issued it, whether its chain is trusted, and whether it covers the hostname. It also looks up when the domain registration itself expires, using RDAP.

How do the alerts work?

Add up to 3 domains and confirm your email address. We check them every day and email you 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 day before a certificate or domain expires, and once if a certificate stops being valid. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe.

Domain registration alerts need the registry to publish an expiry date over RDAP. Many country-code domains, like .io and .de, don’t, so for those you get certificate alerts only.

Can it renew my certificate for me?

No. Expiry Watch only reads what any browser can see. It never logs in to your server or registrar and can’t change anything. It tells you in time to renew, or to check that your automation did.

What can Chart Link make?

Bar, line, area, pie, donut and scatter charts from pasted CSV or JSON. Export them as SVG or PNG and use them anywhere.

Hosted chart image links, for places where JavaScript can’t run like email, Slack, PDFs and pull requests, are in early access.

What do you do with my email address?

We use it only to send what you signed up for. We don’t sell or share it, and unsubscribing stops all email. The privacy policy has the details.

Set it once. Hear from us only when it matters.

Free for up to 3 domains. We confirm your address first, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe.
